The barrier walls at the Walker Road Overpass were originally designed using stainless steel rebar. Because of the high price of stainless steel rebar and the superior properties of the new GFRP material the contractor on the project submitted a change proposal to the MTO suggesting the installation of Schöck ComBAR® bars. The total savings on the five bridges in the overall contract amounted to nearly 300,000 CAD.
